Silver Puya , Puya coerulea   is native to South America this giant bromeliad has a caudex like stem bearing a dense 2 feet diameter rosette of narrow, spiny silver white leaves 1 to 2 inches wide. Pyramidal flower spikes over 3 ft. long of funnel shaped dark purple flowers in late spring.Hardy in zones 9 -10 .

Grow the Silver Puya indoors as a fantastic specimen of terrestrial Bromeliads. An outdoor plant mild wintered areas. Here in Santa Barbara, established plants have handled 18 degrees F for short periods of time. A good cactus mix for soil works well, place in an area that has full sunlight, frequent light watering’s allowing it to dry some in-between and feed a low nitrogen fertilizer every 2 months. Planted out of doors it should be in full sun and protect from excessive winter moisture.

We are offering for sale a well established plant 8 to 10 inches tall.
