Kalanchoe Gastonis Bonnieris also known as Donkey Ears, Giant Kalanchoe, Leaf of Life, and Miracle Leaf is native to Madagascar. It grows 12 to 18 inches tall and about as wide with ovate lanceolate leaves that can be enormous, 12 to 18 inches long. The leaves are bronze-green covered with a waxy white covering and splotched with maroon blotches often having small plantlets developing along the leaf margin.

The flower appears in the fall born on top of a 2 to 3 foot tall stalk that branches near the top with several clusters of pale peach colored buds that darken and become the calyces holding the darker reddish salmon petals with flared tips and yellow interior. The flowering process lasts nearly 2 months at which point the mother plant declines but the many plantlets on the leaves develope rapidly to bloom within 2 to 3 years.

Kalanchoe is used as traditional medicine, in Latin America, Asia, and Africa to treat the following illnesses: Injuries and illnesses related to callular damage, especiially Cancer,  Deep Infectious Cuts, Infections and Burns, Abcesses and Tumors, Inflammations, Hypertendion.

The plants curative properties embrace more than just the above mentioned as it can heal cellular damage in many different organs of the body.

The leaves which have a slightly sour taste, are used curatively and can be taken internally or use externally depending on the illness.

Externally: the leaves in the form of a poultice, compress, or plaster: an ointment of the leaf juices with oil or Vaseline.

Applied this way the plant is an anti inflammatory, astringent and coagulant it will also help  heal scars.

Internally: as raw leaves in salads, frsh juice (add water for larger quantities), infusions.

Doses for internal use: it depends on the size of the leaf: from a large leaf up to 3 or 4 smaller leaves a day, in weight about 50 to 100 gr a day of he fresh plant. As an infusion, one cup before each meal or 3 times a day
